Golden Slumbers

Chai-onara! Tea you later! Kiss your chamomile goodbye and embrace a new nightcap. Turmeric is the superstar spice of the moment that wards off inflation, fights pain and arthritis, detoxes the blood, cleanses the liver, and provides a great immunity boost. And one of the most popular ways to enjoy these benefits is by the glassful. A drink called “golden milk” is rocking the Whole Foods world.

Simple to make and with an earthy, sweet and spicy taste like that of chai, golden milk is the ideal evening elixir you can feel good about drinking.

NUTRITIONSTRIPPED

Here’s how to make it:

Simply combine 1 cup almond or coconut milk with 1/2 teaspoon turmeric, 1/2 teaspoon ginger, 1/4 teaspoon cardamom, a pinch of black pepper, and a teaspoon of honey. Whisk, strain, heat, and enjoy! Some recipes also recommend simmering the mixture pre-strain to lessen the bitter bite. You can also add a dash of cinnamon, use a frother to mimic a latte-like taste, or serve it cold over ice.

Taking Back Sundays

The Parisians have it mastered.  The Manhattanites made it cool.  So why have us Angelenos never fully gotten on the Brunch bus?  The reasons are beyond me.  After all, it’s an event that is founded on sleeping in, drinking before noon, and sun-savvy style.  Are we LA natives lacking in affinity for any of three of these things?  I certainly think not.  It’s about time this city got it’s act together and made brunch a weekend non-negotiable.

But first, we drink.  Here are some AM cocktails from around the web to desire + inspire…with a twist.

Boozy Tuesday, Vol. 4

Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday…we meet again.  Stuck somewhere between the lost memories of Saturday + Sunday past and those waiting to made in the weekend ahead, you’ve brought on fatigue + foreboding.  Will I ever make it to the week’s end?  With a good, strong dose of creative drinks + stimulating culture, making it to Friday might just be feasible.

With July nearing its final days (sidebar: Noooooooo!), I thought squeezing in some final festivities in honor of the month’s nationwide holiday.  July is National Blueberry Month.  Yes, it’s also National Ice Cream Month, but let’s be honest, we’ve all celebrated that numerous times these past few weeks.  Instead, this week’s helping of cocktail + culture stars the jubilant little berry famous for its minerals + muffins.  Enjoy yourself a Blues-y Tuesday.
